Entry- Level Actuarial Analyst

Independent Actuaries, Inc. in Lake Oswego, Oregon (near Portland)

Independent Actuaries, Inc. (IAI) was incorporated in 1994 and is an established firm of actuaries and retirement plan consultants. We have a staff of 17 with 12 credentialed consultants. We specialize in defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans for small businesses.

We are currently in need of an actuarial analyst. Position is not fully remote and requires some in office presence (40% of schedule), with option for part time remote work (hybrid work schedule). Would prefer full-time schedule but can accommodate part-time.

The new employee will:

  • Assist the current actuaries and consultants while learning the nature of the service provided.
  • Pursue specialized actuarial skills and credentials, including taking ASPPA and/or SOA actuarial exams.
  • Expand skills to become an Enrolled Actuary (EA) and acquire own client account responsibilities in the future.
  • Intend to pursue professional actuarial credentials through the actuarial exam process while employed at Independent Actuaries, Inc.

Strongly preferred skills and attributes:

  • Ability to work independently

Entry- Level Defined Contribution (DC) Analyst

Independent Actuaries, Inc. (IAI) was incorporated in 1994 and is the largest locally owned actuarial consulting firm in the Pacific Northwest. We have a staff of 17 with 12 credentialed consultants. We specialize in Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) retirement plans for small businesses.

We are currently in need of an entry level DC plan analyst. Although we are not requiring experience for this position, a successful candidate will have education background or experience in accounting, finance, or other related field.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assist with a range of projects primarily focused on DC plans
  • Research and perform data analysis on various aspects of retirement plans by reviewing and interpreting plan financial and census data, plan documents, ERISA guidance and regulations
  • Reconcile assets/trust accounting
  • Currently taking or intending to take ASPPA exams and ultimately earn QKA and QPA designations
