We rarely see them accurately portrayed or even mentioned in the main stream media.  Even the financial writer for the New York Times who wrote an article on the subject seemed surprised at their existence! The article discusses the pros and cons of defined benefit plans (mostly) correctly and describes where and how they can be useful.
